JUNIOR LIFEGUARDS
The Junior Lifeguard program is designed for youths between the ages of 8 and 15 years old.  During this 72 hour program, Junior Lifeguards will be introduced to many aspects of the lifeguarding profession.  Topics include: basic water safety (flat water and ocean), lifesaving skills, CPR, first-aid, skin diving and orientation to lifesaving equipment.  This class is both informative and fun, however, discipline will be expected and daily physical activities including running, swimming and daily calisthenics will be conducted.

In addition, for safety reasons each participant must pass a mandatory swim test prior to the first day of class.  The swim test will consist of a 100 yard swim in under three minutes and treading water for two minutes, both are pass/fail.  Because there will be scheduled field trips to the beach and Wild Rivers, this program is a great way for individuals to learn how to be safe in and around water-- at a lake or the ocean.  For ages 8-11 years old, we offer a 24 hour Sunfish Lifeguard Program. For information, call 770-1313, ext. 218 and ask for any J.G. instructor or Lieutenant Ian Burton.
